Bernann McKinney from the U.S. holds one of five cloned pitbull pupies during her first meeting with them at the Seoul National University Hospital for Animals in Seoul, South Korea, Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008. McKinney has received five baby dogs — copies of her beloved late pitbull 'Booger'- from a South Korean biotech firm in what it calls the world's first commercial canine cloning service.

Apparently she paid $ 150,000 for the "Boogers".
Any thoughts on this lady's mental health or cloning in general?

If I were to loose one of my appendages or internal organs, than yes, I am all for it.
If it were possible to clone my entire body, say at the age of 30, and transfer my brain or retained memories to the newer cloned body, than again yes, I am all for it.

and that's the issue. All you get from clones is identical looking but with empty memories ... and no-one knows how the brain retains them. Even if it were possible when do you transfer the memories ... can't do it when clone is a baby or pre-teen. So, your memories in storage till clone is old enough? ... by then it's got memories of it's own! ... fail!

I think that its a good thing. I mean of course clones are only good in moderation, and playing god is wrong , and blah blah to the blizzy , but I think that cloning is going to be a major issue down the road. A lot like the whole abortion thing. It will only be avalible for animals, or body parts for medical purposes, because I really do not think humans are going to be stupid enough to clone humans. That is intill WWIII when the world ends. Thats not going to be for another 9 years though.

All of her cloned pets, although technically successful, will either have severe health problems, or live relatively short lives.
For whatever reason, the lifespan of all successful clones are greatly reduced compared to their "normal" counterparts. Science has yet to find an answer to this.
The cloned dogs' offspring, however, will live normal lives with normal life spans.

That's what I was gonna say. I wouldn't do it now, but if I had the money to spare, I would.
Anyway, I have no problems with cloning. I personally can't see God becoming pissed off at us for creating life. Terminating it, yes. But all we're doing is copying what he has done in our own little way.
I personally hope it takes off and eventually we will have the technology to clone fish and sheep and pigs and the whole lot of edible animals. Which will surely end world hunger and the human race can advance as one solid unit.

No government cares about hunger. I used Africa as a example. Africa gets some help from US and EU, and then they owe favors to them, like land or having to put US/EU products on African market. African products can't compete with their prices, so their economy gets even worse. Africa is a nice little piggy bank and it's in no ones interest to see it on it's own four feet.
So only way it could pay off to remove hunger from Africa, is if their shit could be sold for a nice price.

Oh right. Well thank God you explained that one.
Well, I know they don't really car about hunger. But then you have charities and all that shit who'll try their best. And they'll keep on at the Governments to help the world. Like Bono and co.
And sooner or later, when it is more than feasible to sort out the hunger, Governments'll be left with no other choice than to sort things out.
In my opinion anyway.

I think the whole thing is retarded.
I mean, what makes you you isn't in your appearance, it's all of the added experiences that you've had in life.
All she did is preserve 'boogers' shell, it's not him, it will never be him, souly because I'm sure circumstances and environment have changed so there is really no way to get the real "booger" back.
I think the woman in question needs psychiatric help, not the aide of modern science. =/
As for cloning in general i think its a bad idea.
A cool idea, sure, but a bad one none the less.
I don't think that we should even go down that road because if we do pull it off and start creating new bodies to harvest we will have to start thinking about the people we created.
Sure they aren't naturally made but aren't they people none the less? Also what happens if those parts that we would receive end up going seriously wrong and mutate or some shit.
I dunno it just seems like a lot of unnecessary bullshit to get into just so we could live longer.
Also what would that do to the economy? People need to die to make way for upcoming generations.
What, is our idea of a bright future a world with a bunch of rich old farts like Mr. Burns, buying whatever body parts to stay alive? Meanwhile the poor folk that couldn't afford a body transplant just die off? Will they then need to clone people just to produce offspring, or by that time will they have found a way to jump start old peoples withered cocks/wombs?
Like i said, it was a really cool thought but it seems like it would end up harming more than it would help.
Desperate people will do desperate things i guess.

This is the part that got me too. The man made people would still be people. So maybe they could still clone living things like pets and live stock. But just not people.

Of the African nations suffering from famine, it has less to do with competition from more developed nations products, and has more to do with the leaders of these nations spending more money on military and defenses to qualm any coup attempts by political rival factions. If they spent as much money as they did on agriculture and infrastructure, there wouldn't be hunger in Africa.
Instead, because there is constant war between factions that just don't want to concede, more money is spent on guns, than food.

Annual inflation in Zimbabwe is estimated between 6-9,000,000% !!!!!! That would mean if it was happening in USA and taking the lowest estimate, 6 million dollars would be worth $1 after a year!

Because you weren't supposed to live that long, by continuing to live you are taking up valuable space that should be given to future generations.
After a while we would start experiencing a over population problem because people would still be breeding as usual but a big chunk of them won't be dying due to getting new body's or whatever.

There is nothing that says "you weren't supposed to live that long" when we have in our recorded history people living up to 700 years.
Who and what says that "valuable space that should be given to future generations"? What do you mean by "valuable"?
There is lots of "space" out there if only societies would stop cramming up the cities. Technology is making it possible for more and more people to work at home instead of making the big commute to the city for the job. Cities usually have high density of people because that were the jobs are. Not for much longer.

What is it that I'm not gonna get?
The fact that people reproduce so that they can have a little bundle of joy to love and raise. People will always want kids. Regardless of weather or not they can step into a new body.
John and Mary will be the hypothetical people for this hypothetical situation.
John meets Mary, they have four kids and grow old. Their kids have four kids each. Which makes 20 in total.
John and Mary get new bodies. John and Mary have four more kids with their new bodies. Their new and old kids have four kids each. Which makes 60 in total.
John and Mary and John and Mary's kids get new bodies. John and Mary have four new kids, as do John and Mary's first four kids and their second group of kids.
And that's just from John and Mary. As of July 2007, the estimated population of the world is 6,602,224,175
See where I'm going with this?
No one's dying but most of them are gonna keep reproducing. Do you really not see a problem with this?

Yeah... sure. We're far from perfecting any sort of cloning technology. For now, it's mostly just an idea, and a greatly controversial one at that. Secondly, we don't even go to the moon hardly ever, we've never been to Mars, and we don't have any actual plans for colonizing either yet. If and when we do put people on one or both places, it will likely be completely scientific and/or military in nature for a long time before civilians are allowed. I don't blame any generation. I blame humans. Every generation is the same deep down. Selfish bastards who are born with one word on their tounge: my!
That includes you science fanatics. I don't live a selfish life. I save all the resources I can. I'm very self disciplined. My mind:
-I crave an ice cream.
-Do I need an ice cream?
-Should i buy an ice cream just because I want it?
-No.
Not that Ice cream is bad. I just don't need it.
You don't know me.
Question: "Do you want to live to be, say, 80 years old?"
Typical answer from someone born after 1985:
"Fuck no. Who wants to live in this world with pollution and nuclear annihilation!"
My answer will be: don't care. I don't feel like I have to achieve something memorable, I don't need to see the world, I don't need to do everything I can imagine. That's an egocentric way of thinking that made humans so dangerous. Some people die at 100, some at 0. I'm nothing special and I'll also die at some point, where that will be, I don't care and don't want to know.
I just care that in the end, the amount of happiness I felt surpasses the amount of fear.
It's too bad you don't look forward to a future.
A few things for you to Google:
*Longevity
*Nano-technology
*Genome project
*Cloning
*Neuro-psycho-pharmacology
That's just a start.
New technology will never make you happy.
We didn't have phones when I was 6, but still all the kids knew when and where to meet. Don't remember how, but it worked. Every day a bunch of kids found each other and went doing stuff.
Phones came, now we can't do without them.
I never said that there wasn't a mess to clean up nor that it was going to be easy, but Space exploration will be THE THING, like it or not, ready for it or not.
One last time, what does space travel have to do with anything?
I don't understand your point.
700 year old people. If you knew who Däniken is, then you would understand my point.
Quinn is for you to change the way you think about your self. You give humans way to much credit. You do understand that humans are only important to humans? We are not the peek of life. We are it's downfall. Technology is only digging us deeper into the hole.

As opposed to a billion of people who have/want children. Slow.
Slow? Because I don't understand you, it's considered slow?
How about 'fuck off'. Like that one?
............, flappers.
You mean Pinkslut, yes?
Billions of people will not be moved to space. They will rot here on Earth. Space is not the answer.
This is your opinion. I don't agree with it. How about I behave like you.
Your slow, flappers.
...
What?
This time, I don't get your point.
So what. No big deal.
The same problems you said shall be fixed by space travel. If you didn't admit them, why did you mention space travel?
Started from post #31 and #33.
Over population could be alleviated getting the work force to live in the country side. I have some Jp friends who are Engineers with Mitsubishi Silicon. They told me 75% of their work load could be done at home with Internet hookup with a twice aweek commute to the office. That means they could easily live in the country side.
Another opinion (please notice the word 'opinion') is colonizing space. Maybe it won't be on Mars first. Could be on space stations.
Another opinion is cloning as I mentioned earlier.
Only cowards play word games like you. ............
I don't like where you are going with this. I am neither a coward nor lazy, yet you assume so.
You're being double standard. I will show you later in the post.
I don't blame any generation.............You don't know me.
Good on you.
Here is where I show you that you're Double Standard. You call me "lazy" and "coward" yet you don't know me.
New technology will never make you happy.
That's your opinion.
I would imagine millions of women were happy with the invention of the vacuum cleaner.
Millions of more Japanese women were happy with the rice cooker.
One last time, what does space travel have to do with anything?
I've already answered this.
Please note* I will not argue nor persuade anybody with my opinions.
You have a choice to agree or not. Up to you.
I prefer Zecharia Sitchin, Stephen Covey, Alvin Toffler and Chomsky.
No. I'm wasting my time with you.
When you have nothing to say, you talk shit.
You have no case, so you talk about alleviating the problem with moving people around, like that was your major argument. You just mentioned it, no one argued about that. Not that it's 100% correct. People still breed wherever they are. I don't see the room or the reason (other than egocentric megalomania) for cloning.
Just admit it, space colonization has nothing to do with anything here. You have no idea how it will help, if you did, you would elaborate. What you are doing is just being stuborn. You're just so in love with the idea, you mention it every chance you get.
And by the way, it's sad you don't know what happiness means. If you think women are happy about vacuum cleaners, you have no touch with humanity.

..............like that was your major argument. You just mentioned it, no one argued about that.
This is where you are contradicting yourself. I already stated that I am not arguing one point about any damn thing.
And by the way, it's sad you don't know what happiness means.
This is where you are being Double Standard again.
You don't know me.
If you think women are happy about vacuum cleaners, you have no touch with humanity.
This is where you are being Double Standard again.
You don't know me.
Yes indeed. You ARE wasting your time if you are looking an argument and for cookie points.
You fail.
If you don't understand that, you double fail.
