I just found out my favorite Aunt has Breast Cancer :-(
She's in her 30's and has a ten year old son whom she breast fed. Doesn't that seem a bit odd? It seemed to me that she was, first of all, quite young and, second, not a candidate.
In my opinion, cancer is one of those new rampant things that our "civilized" and "developed" way of life has afforded us.
Opinions, stories, etc. concerning any form of cancer are welcome in this thread.
ps- It's 4:30 am and I literally just crawled out of bed, blurry eyed for a bowl of cereal. So, yes, that's all I'm going to add for now. btw- good morning.

My mother had breast cancer and decided to have one of them removed, about 6 months ago.
In some good sense, it has changed her life around, especially her eating habits.

My mom has had breast cancer in both breats and had a double massectomy..
My grandma died of breast cancer the third time she got it.
And the worst:
3 years ago, one of my very best friends died of breast cancer at 23 years old after being misdiagnosed by her doctor. She found a lump in her breast and went to see him and he told her "it's only fibrous tissue, you're too young".. a year later, she was putting some stuff in a bag and felt a crack in her back... went to the hospital and found out that just shaking the plastic bag to open it fractured her spine in 6 places, so they started to research why.. Cancer had spread from her breast throughout her body.. Nothing they could do.

Nobody in my family has ever had cancer, but I still do belive it is just another disease brought about by modern man. We value things that only better ourselfs, and do not think about the ramifications. Cancer was not a problem when I was growing up. You never really heard about anyone having cancer around my way in the 80's, and early 90's. Cancer came in with Dawsons Creek, but it drown him.
p.s.- its 4:08 in the afternoon, and I literally just crawled off the porch, glossy eyed, over a bowl. So yeah thats all I am going to add for now.

Good lord :( I was 18 when my doctor found a pretty big lump in my left breast. She said she'd rather be paranoid and biopsy than have me become her first teen cancer patient. That. Sucked. BUT the good news is that it really was just a random lump.
Did her doctor "diagnose" this "fibrous tissue" through a biopsy or just simply by the fact that she was "too young" - if it's the latter, he should have his license(?) revoked.

Mmm yeah, fuck off.

He simply blew it off.
My aunt had paget's disease of the nipple, which is cancer of the nipple. And her nipple was scaly, and itchy. She went to her doctor and he gave her this cream saying it was excema. She started feeling shitty so she went to the doctor again, and he referred her to a dermatologist where they did a biopsy of the skin and it was, infact cancer. It was too late, it spread, she then had breast cancer and had to have one of her breasts removed.
A few months ago, I had the same issues and thought of her situation and went to a dermatologist. He biopsied it and said it was just an allergy from maybe a new soap or something.
Breast Cancer, skin cancer and lung cancer run in my family. Id rather have the heart disease than have to go through treatment for cancer. And I feel for anyone who has any kind of cancer. =\

Ow. Ow. Ow.
I'm glad to hear it was nothing though :)

You have got to be one of the dumbest fuckers on the planet. Just because you never paid attention to who might have cancer around you doesn't make it a new fenomenum. My grandfather had cancer treatments in the 70's. It also not something man made. Unless they were making new disease back around 460 BC when cancer was first discovered. Did you ever think that perhaps it was around. . .but science had not yet discovered good ways to treat it? All those natural causes of death at the ripe old age of 45 in the 19th and early 20th century had to be caused by something.
If we really stretch your statement of "modern man" you might be able to say that people live much longer now. As a result there is a greater likely hood that they will develop cancer as it usually happens later in life.

I had to look this up myself. You're partially correct.
"Cancer History
The oldest description of human cancer was found in an Egyptian papyri written between 3000-1500 BC. It referred to tumors of the breast. The oldest specimen of a human cancer was found in the remains of a female skull dating back to the Bronze Age (1900-1600 BC).The mummified skeletal remains of Peruvian Incas, dating back 2400 years ago, contained lesions suggestive of malignant melanoma. And cancer was found in fossilized bones and manuscripts of ancient Egypt. Cancer is not a disease of our modern industrialized age, as some may have believed at one time."

My aunt had breast cancer. she had one removed. She would talk about it with my mom and there other sister. said that it made her feel less like a chick. She lived, and is in great health and her cancer is in remission.
One of my familys friends daughter had it. She was around 11. Some guys bet me to steal her hat before i really knew what radtion theorpy was. I still feel like shit about it. She died a few months to a year later, Her mom, my mom and one of there friends made 'running with angels' which was a charity run. My brother, me, her brother and a few friends got got really involved in it. I setup the stands and help plan the water, snacks and ran shit errons. http://beckybellrun.hypermart.net/ <-- thats the race
My uncle had colon cancer. Found it last year. It's in remission. He had decent docters, but they also caught it early.
My dad got found out he had throat cancer about a year and a half ago, right after christmas. He went to the mayo clinic, had the best docters money could buy. Apparently the treatment weakens shit. No one knew how weak the back of his throat was. He died holding my moms hand telling her it was nothing.
2/4 i guess. I know logically good docters helps, it just doesn't seem like it. My sis in law is a docter of pharmacy, between her, my obession with research and my mom having nothing else to do, we pretty much have read anything you could related to general cancer or throat cancer. My mom with breast cancer as well. The earlier it's caught the better obviously, but even a month makes a huge difference. If its in the later stages, it sucks. It really does effect everyone around it though. My mom is still a walking zombie. My brother had a good bit of it to. Truth is, i really haven't gotten over it myself. Even the becky the little girl left a nice big mark on me, and that was in 1992. It's mostly cause you have to watch them go through the pain and humilation. Like being a woman with one breast, especially if you got big boobs, cause its really noticeable. Or being a man and not being able to eat steak or anything but baby formula like stuff. Or an 11 yearold girl who's gotta wear a baseball cap and a wig because she's bald. i'll say a prayer for your aunt.

I'm quoting these two posts for my own personal reference later. That's really interesting... and makes more sense than what I'd originally thought.

What was it you thought was the case, Josie?
Did you think cancer just came about recently?
I'm not poking fun...I'm honestly curious.
I had no idea that it dated back that far either. Makes sense though. I'd imagine cancer has been around as long as humans have.

Yes. I'd assumed it was a product of our lifestyles... but had never actually looked into it.

I had thought so as well.
About the time when the cowboys were doing the long drive with cattle.
When society became massive consumers of red meat with the availability of meat, no longer needing to hunt it down as often.

I guess the evil Capitalistic ways weren't the culprit behind breast cancer after all, eh buddha?
One thing I did hear about breast cancer though had to do with oriental women.
It seems once they move to an industrialized nation/area that incidences of breast cancer significantly rise.
Has something to do with preservatives and what not.
Says a lot about proper diet and exercise.

They also get fatter and age quicker.
