A friend just told me today that the # 8 is a lucky number for the Chinese.
Yesterdays earthquake was the 88th day before the Olympics start and was to be an auspices day, with Olympics starting on 08/08/2008 (notice the 8's?).
Well, with the earthquake, measuring 7.8 for a solid 5 minutes of shaking, I just don't think that was a very good omen in the least.
In one school alone, 500 students died.
They are up at around 12,000 dead now with 18,000 trapped under rubble.
On top of that (as mentioned in another forum) my wife and I sponsor a little girl from Burma. We have no idea as to her whereabouts. Alive, dead or missing, we have no idea and have to wait for the organization (World Vision) to contact us.
Now, a tornado tears through my old stomping grounds, Greensboro N.C.
Wow, just WOW!

I was all set to wish you and yours the best of luck and offer my condolences. Until I read the last line.
Turns out, you're so bitter about American ignorance that you find reason to comment on it even when your focus should be tuned to the mess right in front of you.
Why should I give a fuck about you and yours when you obviously care less about them yourself then you do about where American focus is pointed? Go fuck yourself.

If it weren't for children being involved, id say nature was trying solve the overpopulation crisis in China.
For some reason, hit enter too soon..
Anywho, I feel bad for the children.. and I hope that nothing else happens like that.

What the fuck are you talking about?
I am bitter? Where the fuck did you get that from? Out of your ass?
Or was if YOUR misunderstanding of the post? I think the latter.
Let's see, the last line reads " Wow, just WOW!"
What does that mean, other than what YOU thought?
Hmmm, let me see, since I wrote it seems I should know what the fuck I meant by it, REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU THINK......
It means: Shit in hell goddamn. There were 3 terrible tragedies that have taken place in 3 different parts of the world in 3 different ways, all resulting in terrible deaths and I am connected to all three of them in some obscure way:
1. I live very close to the Chinese border.
I am as of now watching the news and seeing parents grieve for their loved ones that are lying dead at their feet.
2. I support a child in Burma as a volunteer.
I have NO idea as to her current situation so I am concerned, quite naturally for her safety.
3. I lived in Greensboro N.C. for 7 years and my mother is in South Carolina which is not THAT close, but close enough. I have friends and relatives in Greensboro and vaguely reading about the tornado, quite naturally my mothers welfare will come to mind as well as those folks residing in Greensboro.
Again, what the fuck is YOUR problem?
Can't read correctly? Going off at the mouth again?
American focus, what what what???
This has nothing to do with politics nor race, fool.
You get my vote for FIMD for sure, hands down.

I seriously doubt nature took a conscious effort to end the lives of some 12,000 plus Chinese, some 12,000 plus Burmese and some 60 or more North Carolinians.
Tell you what. I'll leave this thread for you and Polar Bear to play around in since I have no idea what you two are going on about.

What can I say. Hindsight is 20/20. At the time it seemed like he was sarcastically saying "There's all this shit going on in the world, but Wow...let's all focus on some tiny tornado because it happened in North Carolina."
In other words, I figured it was just another America bashing thread. Like I said...until the last line, I was all ready to wish him the best. But I digress, I misinterpreted his meaning.:21_003: Oops.

Lol, calm it. It was a joke. Im not a heartless peson who wishes bad things like that. Actually, I DO feel for those people. I JUST seen the news and saw pictures of a school that collappsed with children inside. Very sad. A lot of things have been happening like that... have you heard about that huge sinkhole in TX? The weather that NJ had yesterday that ruined a few homes, and of course, those fucking tornadoes? Im hoping the hurricains arent bad this year.

there was like a typhonish hurrican thingy in ill once when i was like 17. I think it was near the time that kevin cosner storm chaser movie came out, so i was totally like driving around in it. A few years earlier there was a really really bad storm, and i was out sailing on these things called sunfish, which are these little 1 man sail boats, and i totally rocked it. I was going so fast that i was standing up leaning all the way back on one side so it wouldn't capsize. Those where kick ass winds and it was hella fun. Of course the boat wasn't mine, but i didnt give a shit, it was a once in a life time type of thing. That was so bad ass.

Wow, just wow.
128,000 dead in Burma. Still no word of the sponsor child.
More than 20,000 dead in sichuan and that province is completely devastated with another 40,000 still buried.
This was a god awful quake. The news is all day, everywhere and so depressing.
I have to hand it to the Prez of China. He is doing a great job.

I believe that, in some badly hit places, entire generations have been almost wiped out.... what with the Chinese ruling about only having one child and all that. And was it in Sechuan(sp) that the school was totalled with no survivors?
It's just so sad.

Meaningless. After watching the news after the tsunami in 2004(?) and seeing the body count continually rise to well over 100,000...the numbers became too large, unfathomable, and consequently...meaningless. Hard to believe one single event can take so many lives though.

Because when Jiang Jufeng called him and told him in chinese that there was a crisis in Sichuan involving school children, he thought he thought he ment an oppertunity in sichuan involving school children
The one child policy is the best thing ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No its not.. parents lost their ONE child. You dont think thats sad? Anytime a child is hurt or has died, it's a tragedy. Wtf is wrong with you?

It's really hard to believe how long it took those idiots to get out there and help them.
And whats really sad, is when Sept 11 took place, NYC came together and helped eachother. When katrina happened, you see people alone, while there were tons of looting. I dont even blame the people looting diapers, food, warm clothes, milk etc for their children..but you had people looting TVs and shit. I hope they tryed to go back "home" and plugged those fuckers into their wet, damaged homes. In times like that, you HAVE to come together and help everyone surrounding you. More people might have lived.

They were always so vague about it.
100,000 you say? Wow.

The original death toll of Katrina was 1,723. Allowing for post-Katrina deaths up until this time last year of 2,358 deaths, a total of 4,081 is reached.
I believe Negativecool was referring to the Asian tsunami where the death toll still varies between 250,000 and 295,000.

Ok for those that clearly don't know their natural disasters.
A hurricane or tropical cyclone is a low pressure center and numerous thunderstorms that create high winds and flooding rain.
A tsunami is a massive fuck off set of tidal waves that are created by underwater earthquakes, plate movement shit like that.
I'm surprised that the first two people thought of Katrina when he said tsunami of 2004. Sad that people can't remember the fact that 250,000 people got wiped off the face of the earth. Oh and it also pays to know that Katrina was in 2005.

I am aware of the differences as well as the differences between a Cyclone, Hurricane and Typhoon.
His post was quite vague and yes, I did not get a clear figure of the Hurricane Katrina death tolls.
I don't think people forgot about the Tsunami back in 2004. It's still in the back of their minds with the now present Sichuan earthquake topping at 100,000 deaths with another 100,000 unaccounted for.

I don't know much about you buddhaboy, but I'll assume you do not live in the states if you didn't get the full figure of Katrina deaths and thought that maybe 100,000+ was a possible figure.
I can't imagine what it would be like if a highly developed democratic nation lost so many in one single event.
