On an average work day, I am a walking chemical suicide bomber, as follows:
Shampoo and conditioner-at the moment Dove
Soap-Crabtree & Evelyn-Wisteria
Toothpaste-using something I bought in Korea
Shave foam-Gillette
Balm-Crabtree & Evelyn
Cologne-Tuscany Per Uomo Eau de Toilette
Deodorant-Fa
Body spray-Fa
Design Gel-L'Oreal
Damn! I sure do smell purdy!
Problem is it's all gone in about 2 hours because it's so damn hot out here.

You'd think with all the chemicals on the skin, we'd have'd poisoned ourselves long ago.

Maybe so, but there are a lot of good products out there for men.
I have no problems admitting that I wash my face with facial scrub, I go monthly for the facial with the wife, my wife also will trim my nails and toe nails once a month with a foot soak (yes, you read correctly, my wife does it).
Nothing wrong with a man looking and smelling good, but not over done of course.

I honestly have to wonder if we have done ourselves more harm than good with moisturizers and chemical peels and the like.

Hmm... Yeah, I don't like smelly stuff all that much.
Aveeno Body wash or aveeno bar soap... or even aveeno baby wash.
NO deoderant (that's right, none)
NO body sprays or perfumes
nivea soft face creme or curel unscented
Biolage shampoo and conditioner (I dye my hair too much)
*edit* Arm and Hammer toothpaste
*edit* I don't use shaving creme. Conditioner seems to work better for me.
What's funny is that people always tell me I smell really good. Maybe it's just the shampoo?

I have a few ideas as to what your answer might be... but why no deodorant?

I just don't think I need it. It's also frustrating to get that stuff everywhere. It seems no matter how little I put on, I manage to get on my clothes somehow. Grr.

Nah i was laughing at the comparision she made unknowingly. Though it brings up an interesting point. I've done both, and other then the paticlar smells it hasn't effected my skin dramaticly over a long peroid of use. It seems that it effects it right away, but after a bit my skin gets use to it. Right now i role old school style.
No shaving cream, disposable razor (i've always shaved this way)
Lavender body wash (usually after the rain scent)
Suave after the rain shampo
no conditioner as it makes my hair froey
toothpaste and tooth brush
mouthwash (scope)
Addidas or cologn though i change whenever i run out
and rarely i use this kit i got from this crazy chick named tracy on xmas which is mint exfloiant body scrub and body wash, but thats more or less when i just want to feel sparkly fresh!
My face has never gotten softer, nor any of the rest of my skin. It seems to temporarily hold off against burns and stuff associated with dry skin, but it doesn't seem to restore anything at all. And the temporary benifits seem to go away in a month of regular use for me. I have lotion but i have no use for it at all.
I'm objected to excessive "product" use for lots of reasons. they're mainly tested on animals, they're almost all petroleum based, and they come in plastic.
so I go as product-free as possible.
if I find an inexpensive shampoo and conditioner that wasn't tested on animals that covers, soap, hair, shaving and body wash.
I NEVER wear scented sprays, lotions, etc. they make me sick and I'm allergic to bees.
wouldn't do me to go walking around smelling like a nice polleny bouquet, now would it?
as for lotions...I don't need them. I take nice hot baths all the time and exfoliate with a sea sponge. my ass is baby smooth, mofickers.
I'm waaaay low maintenance. I don't paint my nails (I'm a climber. I shouldn't even HAVE nails). I don't curl or poof or straighten or fuck with my hair.
I get a good solid cut and leave it to its own devices. if it doesn't lay right...
it gets the headband.
amazing how I apply such little effort...
and still look so. damn. good.
