I challenge anybody to a weight lose/body shaping contest, starting now and ending by June.

I shall post a before/after pic of my belly by June to show results.

Any takers???

My program:
One meal a day. Fresh veg/fruit juices done by my juicer, daily.
3 sets of 3 high intensity, in place exercises done at 120 reps, at least 4 times a week.
1 set of chi-gong/Qi-gong exercise, including various movements at 20 reps.

OK people, you're all on!

Remember, take a pic of that belly, NOW! With a date stamp.

Weight gain or loss, does not matter.

Summer will be here before you know it.

Got my new leg weights. 10lbs/leg. The old ones were half that. I have not worn them for about a year. Last night was the first night at "full strength" and my muscles ache just a bit from 8 hours wearing those beasties. I also put the old ones on my arms for a bit as an experiment. Broke a sweat within minutes. I will be combining these from now on.

And in case you are rusty...my work involves a lot of shoveling, and a lot of walking.

Starting weight: 237

I'm about 82 kg (I don't know in pounds) and the goal is 72-75.

If any of you are interested I'll post the Us Army's policy and measurement procedures on height / weight standards.

See the attachments below.

1. BF worksheet calculator. This is a MS Excel worksheet .. use MS Excel or a compatible .xls reader to use.

2. Ar 600-9 ( dated 2006) This is the policy the Army uses to determine if a soldier is suitable for duty.

You can use it if you like as a guide, or laugh at it for all I care.

The xls is self explanatory, well, it is unless you are completely fucking retarded. ( note: make sure you set your SEX to the appropriate descriptor.)

Wait...it's a weight loss but also a "body shaping" contest?

That implies that it could also be a "getting fatter contest," which I'm sorry to say, I would dominate the fuck out of all of you.

I hereby enter said contest.

Well ..

No one has posted a BEFORE pic yet.

We have not agreed on a standard .. i.e most weight lost .. most reduction in BF ..best looking bods regardless of #'s ... etc etc ..

As for ME .. BF % is way more important than my ending body weight.

Well, some folks will have different methods, like weight lifting or something, which will put on muscle mass.
If they gain more weight with muscle mass, it's OK if they feel their goal was met...........by June.

Indeed.

Try 1- 10 pounds depending on salt / fluid intake.

Pro body builders dehydrate to the point of near unconsciousness prior to a show for this reason alone.

Yeah...some wrestlers have been known to dehydrate themselves to the point of near uselessness to make their weight class....

Been extremely hectic around here lately, my brain is just not keeping on kilter is all.. I'm sure it will pass as soon as I get settled into the new apt and then maybe I'll be able to put 2 and 2 together again with reasonable accuracy.

I kind of find it refreshing to find a chick who wants to have a bit of curves. Too many skin and bones chicks walkin around trying not to get blown away in a stiff breeze.

Don't take this the wrong way .. because I say these things to help, not to harm! :

I'm close to taking up a collection to buy you a plane ticket so you can go see her, because the pawing you've done lately at her door is kinda sad... I liken it to a male cat pissing all over everything, I.E. its NATURAL .. but fucking nasty. http://swollencranium.com/forums/images/icons/wink.png

Another collection will end the same way the first one did.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy being your little charity work, I really do, but I only state my opinion. I didn't see you taking a collection for me to go to Alaska when I said similar stuff about Josie (guffaw or not, woman....).

Alas, not only is DT NOT single, I fear she is not interested in the wonder that is SlimSkeeter.

HOWEVER...if you would care to take up a collection to get me a new Blue Ray player, then I would most humbly accept! Indeed, I would tout your laurels from the highest of rooftops, proclaiming GDP to be a prince among the common man!

In any case.....eye candy is fun!!

I'm 20 pounds and several sizes down! Yay!

And in a couple weeks, I get to have a personal trainer and have the option of doing yoga and some chick work out class. w00t!!

I'm pretty frustrated that they have a 6 week postpartum mandate on exercise though. That's ghey.. seriously.

I was fit to do stuff a couple days after the birth (that reminds me, I need to start working on a write up for a labor/birth thread....). It should be based on individual evaluation in my opinion.

Because, YEAH, if your name is Mondo Whale who's never done a damn thing. Ever. And had a million injections and drugs during labor (aka, gonna fuck yo shit up cuz ya can't feel a durn thing).. you're gonna have issues and really *should* wait.

However, I am not ^heffa up there. And I listen to my body. It says go. It said it forever ago. Impatient, I am.

That, and specific exercises targeted to certain areas BY a trainer help tremendously with Fibromyalgia pain. Yes, please!

When does this challenge end again? *scrolling* June. OKay... Hmm.

I would love to be 125lbs. by the end of June. However, that is probably far too optomistic at this point =(

So...

But hey, if you're interested... check out the metabolism and male geared supplements on young living. The Man and I found some that are geared to help with metabolism and stress from the inside out. Also, "Multigreens" will help to just make you feel better.

Not pushing it, but I thought of you when I was reading about them since you've been hit with a ton of crap lately =/

The six week wait is both about the physical and t hormonal. Your chemicals are all fuckered up right now and your body is trying to get things back to even keel. If you start doing shit that throws estrogen, testosterone etc all off then your more likely to have problems an be postpartum. Who wants you drowning you kid in a bath tub because God told you to. Sure there is also some concern that between breast feeding and exercise you can become malnourished and iron/vitamin deficient. Also, your uterus is enlarged and cervix is still open so you could bleed randomly and even cause a rupture until your shit snaps back into place. Your tits need extra support because they are now fun bags and you could actually tear muscles supporting them. These are just a few things that could go wrong. So. . wait a few more weeks and then go back to it and posting naked pictures.

The Perfect Push-up. (http://www.perfectonline.com/store/index.php/products/perfect-pushup.html)

I've had one of these .. or a variant for the last 15 years. I take it everywhere .. it works.

You get hella strong and hella toned if you follow a regular workout regime with it.

Hate push ups? Well this tool is STILL a go for you .. do the exercises that are included in the chart, and you WILL see success.

Don't believe me ... then ask absinthe about the "aliens" that live in my triceps.

I have no desire to tell anyone how much weight I have to lose, when I get there you can count it if you care that damn much.

I may have mis-used the wording for naming this thread.

The idea was to motivate people to get off their ass and do something for their body.
Any physiological changes that meets ones goals is a win.

I myself am not ready to show a before pic nor an after pic of tubby lard, but I have met some goals.
I go to the gym 5 times a week and work on my upper body, hence, creating more bulk.
I also do intensive exercises on the off days.
I think more about exercise, good quality food, less quantity.
I am more active and less passive.
I justify my online, PC gaming luxuries as rewards for a good work out.
I'm now visualizing that US$2000 bike I want.
I'm sleeping better.
My sexual appetite has increased ( I feel sorry for my wife. She has saddle sores).

I also analyze my pain threshold when lifting. I 'feel' the lactic acids burning in my muscles.
I hit the wall and bounce back.
I'm sure dopamine levels have increased as well.

This month, I may alter the program with more intensive workouts and also doing more reps at lighter weights to create more cuts and body sculpturing.
I'm going to do the '100 push-up' club by working my way up to 100 for one set. This will take time but worth the challenge.
Going to the gym or rolling out the yoga mat at home is not longer a bother. Now, it's a way of life.

I say we can continue the challenge well into August and September. If it takes more time, so be it. I'm having a good time.
This summer, I can take my shirt off at the beach and not feel conscientious.

How tall are you?

Where on google does it tells you 29% ( nearly 1/3 your mass) is ok?

Medically a woman over 17% has UNNECESSARY body fat, in GENERAL 17% is the high side of what a female body usually needs to maintain a normal menstrual cycle.

Before you get all pissy about my questions please note that I am simply asking for your source of information.... I do not believe a chic has to be super lean in order to be healthy/beautiful. Not knowing your height leaves me with only assumptions at whether 29% is on the high side. But I guess here in the civilian world it boils down to what YOU are personally happy with accepting.

I can find 10 links that say 30% is a fat ass.

Any body fat above what is required to maintain an optimum metabolic cycle is UNNECESSARY body fat. We no longer roam the tundra in search of a next meal and as such have NO need to hump around excess body fat.

I don't even know why I bother listing accurate medical information when there are a bazillion links that both confirm and deny what I say and its all down to individual beliefs.

Therefore :

Gary believes that ANYONE in the modern world that is at or above 25% Body fat is a goddamn fat ass. This is MY OPINION.

With all the damn drama I have had in my life recently I fell off the wagon. I gained 4.2 lbs back in three weeks. This really concerned me to see how I could be swayed off. On the other hand, for two weeks I ate whatever we could get and for the most part that wasn't our good food. I still have a 25 lbs net loss.

Last week I was back down .4 and I figure for the next month it will be small losses because I am building back up to where I was a month ago.

Things are calming down some and life will return somewhat to normal (for me).

I did want to share a food find and it sounds terrible but it rocks. Sometimes, you just have to have cake. I took a box of cake mix and a diet soda, mix and bake. Once cool add fat free cool whip for the topping.

This replaces the egg and the oil, which can also be done with applesauce; however, applesauce has calories.

So far I have tried orange cake with orange diet soda and german chocolate with diet root beer.

I just wanted to mention I tried that almond milk you mentioned somewhere before.....fuckin fan goddamn tastic. I had switched totally to soy milk and had been trying different flavors to see what I could stomach and what just turned me off (so far, surprisingly, nothing tastes BAD but I have not tried plain soy milk, either) and I found some vanilla flavored almond milk. Poured a glass, took a sip, and was pretty impressed. I think its my favorite so far.

Also....Chocolate Silk tastes exactly like the chocolate milk you buy in the store out of the dairy case. That and Very Vanilla Silk are my runners up as far as favorites go....

I've also taken to practically eliminating red/fatty meat in favor of 98% fat free turkey and all white meat chicken. This means, turkey burgers, turkey bacon, ground turkey in with my damn hamburger helper, turkey chili (not that I've made that but its gonna happen) and more ways to bake chicken than I thought possible..but my spice cupboard is getting a workout from it. The other upshot to going this route is that its more expensive...so not only am I eating healthier, I'm also eating less cuz my dollar doesn't stretch as far....ergo a bit of self rationing. Still...I seem to slowly be loosing the weight....

Fish.
Didn't see anything about that.

But about the soy milk...

have you ever done any reading up on soy?
Here's just few:

harmful substances in soy products include haemagglutinin, goitrogens, phytic acid, nitrates, and phytoestrogens (in large amounts.) What are these things? Well...

Haemagglutinin is a clot-promoting substance that causes red blood cells to clump together.

Trypsin inhibitors and haemagglutinin are growth inhibitors that are deactivated during the process of fermentation. In precipitated products (like tofu,) enzyme inhibitors concentrate in the soaking liquid rather than in the curd. Thus, in tofu and bean curd, growth depressants are reduced in quantity but not completely eliminated.

Soy also contains goitrogens - substances that depress thyroid function. This is a major concern of mine as I see our population having more and more thyroid issues in my practice with each passing year.

Soybeans are also high in phytic acid, present in the bran or hulls of all seeds. Phytic acid can block the uptake of essential minerals-calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and especially zinc-in the intestinal tract. Scientists are in general agreement that grain and legume-based diets high in phytates contribute to widespread mineral deficiencies in third world countries.

So why, with those potential hazards, is soy market booming?

All soybean producers pay a mandatory assessment of one-half to one per cent of the net market price of soybeans. The total-something like $80 million annually-supports United Soybean's program to "strengthen the position of soybeans in the marketplace and maintain and expand domestic and foreign markets for soybeans and soybean products."

Soy milk, made from raw soy, has posted the biggest gains, soaring from $2 million in 1980 to $300 million in the United States last year. Recent advances in processing have transformed the gray, thin, bitter, beany-tasting beverage into a product that Western consumers will accept.

So what are the side-effects of too much soy? (These are only in alphabetical order and not by the proportion of incidence.)

o Bloating
o Breast cancer (Soy isoflavones mimic estrogen)
o Calcium deficiencies (soy blocks calcium absorption)
o Cognitive decline (esp. in post menopausal women that have increased levels of estrogen in their blood)
o Constipation
o Depression
o Endocrine disruption
o Fatigue
o Goiter
Hair loss
o Hot flashes
o Hypothyroidism
o Infertility
o Irregular periods
o Lethargy
o Loss of muscle tone
o Painful periods
o Premature aging
o Thyroid cancer
o Thyroid disease
o Thyroid Stimulating Hormone increase
o Uterine cysts
o Vitamin D deficiencies
o Weight gain despite workouts and dieting

How much is too much soy? In 1991, Japanese researchers reported that consumption of as little as 30 grams or two tablespoons of soybeans per day for only one month resulted in a significant increase in thyroid-stimulating hormone, and 100 grams of soy protein, (promoted for its bone-building isoflavones and cholesterol-lowering effects) contains the estrogenic equivalent of the Pill.

Just some, ahem, food for thought.

Natural waist measurement: 32.5"

But my hips are huge! Big ol birthin hips =\

So i end up looking odd. Normal waist, big hips and booty. Blegh.

We should be getting our orders fairly soon (next couple months). I am so getting a trainer! The assholes here threw a fit for awhile and now say i can go in. But it wont do much good to go thru all the pprwork and interview process, just to be leaving and juggling other crap as well. So no, for now. Ill stick to the elliptical.

I do not remember saying 17% is the 'ideal' percentage.

I DO contend that in the modern times we live in, where few of us are faced with the extremes of mother nature for truly extended times, 25% or 1/4 of one's body being 'fat' is unneeded and unnecessary.

And any of us that has lived a life of being in good shape with a low BF % and an athletically muscled body will tell you just how much it sucks ass to carry as little as 15 pounds over our 'normal' weight.

Last year after I quit smoking I gained about 20 pounds ... but MORE damaging was the fact that I stopped running and stopped weight lifting. So my 'normal' 195 lbs went to about 215 and my 'normal' Bf went from 15% to a fucking monster 26%.

Visually it was noticeable .. but mobility wise I felt as if I was wearing a soaking wet sleeping bag and everything I did was sluggish and difficult.

People that gain weight slowly and keep it on for years and even decades learn to adjust their movements to match their body shape. Folks that gain weight quickly like I did .. and I suspect like a pregger chic does, has no time to adjust to the new shape and center of gravity.

In Gary's opinion a person should carry around 10% of BF. Most of us are not in competitions that require very low BF and 10% is a good figure to ensure proper metabolic function under stressful conditions and proper energy reserves in times where we may need to use them.

I'm back at my Active duty BF. I'm a little bit heavier though because I've gained some muscle mass since I quit smoking.

Currently I'm 202 @ 18% Bf. The military charts ( the one I use as MY standard ) say I'm allowed to be 24% for my height/weight/age/measurements.

My goal is 10% BF.

I am a huge fan of noodles. However, they are high in calories and you end up eating a lot. So after doing some searching online and not wanting to try the Japanese noodles (yet), I ended up ordering a sampler from these guys:

http://www.fibergourmet.com/default.aspx

130 cal per serving (210 is the normal #) and 18 grams of fiber. Whole wheat noodles have ~ 5 grams. The high fiber noodles cost a bit more, but you tend to eat less - especially if you eat a salad as well. Highly recommended!!

Are you afraid of Japanese noodles? It's summer time there, right?
I recommend going for some Sou-men, Rei-men or Soba. All of these are eaten cold and the sauces can be found in the Asian section.
Japan has the same hot wet summers like N.C., and I was eating this almost eveyday in summer.

Check this link out: Notice the 4th and 5th pics down. That's!! how's it's down. Easy to prepare, light on the stomach, nutritious.

The one with Soba is called Zaru-soba.
I used to make a mistake calling it Saru-soba and my Japanese friends would laugh their asses off.
Saru means 'Monkey'.

I checked the nutrition values of soba:

Soba noodles, 1 cup (75g) (cooked)
Calories: 113
Protein: 5.8g
Carbohydrate: 24.4g
Total Fat: 0.114g
Fiber: 0.0g

No fiber. Fiber is not only healthy for you, it also makes you feel fuller and you eat less. Even though the calorie count is pretty low, I would not really call this a good diet food.

Are you going to eat it everyday? 3 times a day?
I would imagine you would eat something with fiber at another meal time to make up for it.

Soba is great for a light lunch or dinner.

The Reimen is great to eat cold with sliced cucumbers, carrots, ham and other goodies. Just check out the pics yourself.

However, the purpose of this thread is weight loss.

I provided the nutritional values of Soba noodles as general information. I didn't say I wouldn't try them one day and I can imagine that they could be good with some high fiber veggies. But again, due to the non existing fiber, these noodles (by themselves) will not really satisfy your hunger.

I'm sick as a dog right now with the runs and sucking down oranges and making a homemade ginger tea with fresh lemon juice and honey.
Hope to hell it BURNS my fat right off.

This one so easy:

Get fresh ginger. Peel the skin using a spoon. You don't need to use a knife, cause it cuts too much into the meat. (hell you can leave the skin on if you want)
Cut the ginger up into slices your chunks.
Boil for about 10 minutes.

Add fresh lemon juice after the boil
Add honey while the water is still hot

Scoop out the chunkies and discard until you have only the juice.
Drink hot or cold, but better hot if you're sick with cold/fever/flu/sore throat.

I eat what the fuck I want, when the fuck I want, as much as I fucking want . . . . or as much as I can, actually. . . . . . Yup, I love pigging out up to the point where I am uncomfortable.

In the last 5 years, I basically:

1) Lost no weight.
2) Gained no weight.

I am awesome

Having said that, I live a pretty active life, riding and injuring myself on: BMX, skateboard, dirtbikes.
I also swim often, and while im there, fuck about on the trampoline fooling myself into thinking I'm still a 10yr old gymnast for an hour or so.

Other activities includes (but not limited to): Walking / jogging with dogs, digging in my garden, occasional rock climbing, long walks, surya namah skar x 5 (at least) almost every morning. And other things.
At work we do a fair amount of climbing up structures, stairs, carrying shit etc. Sometimes we do nothing.

In short: I consider myself quite lucky for not having to watch, or think about what I eat.

Is it delicious?
YES -> Devour.
NO --> Wash it down with whole milk.

I ran 12 miles this past Sunday. I run 3 miles in 20 minutes every day---as a warm up to an hour and a half of lifting.

I'm in better shape than you.

Plenty of folks are just like this.

I was the same until around the time I hit my 30's. Then I noticed that gaining fat was crazy easy and gaining and maintaining muscle now took effort and time.

Also around my 30's I started being "in charge" of more and more dudes and consequently my individual physical workload changed to more of a hands on supervisory role with more supervise than hands on.

Lesson to take from this:

Find a healthy balanced lifestyle that is not painful to maintain and adopt it. Because LIFE will change all around you over the years, stress from every angle will challenge you and your metabolism. but if you've led a life of moderation then rolling with the punches is a simple task.

The people that struggle the most are the ones that have to make a drastic lifestyle change WHILE they are trying not to be fat. <--- stress + stress = fat. ( The body actually goes into fat store more while under stress .. a throwback to our monkey man ancestors. )

Noted.

Negative, I'm in no way am I physically fit.
At all.
Jogging has never been my thing, I hate that. The only time I jog is when my stupid dog forgets how to just walk and start running.
No, you can really hold him back on leash, he's a feisty motherfucker and in truth, Max takes me for a walk or a jog depending on his mood..

Things I must do:
Stop smoking - quite urgent.
Reduce on alcohol consumption as the last few years of my life has been a string of consecutive parties and piss ups.
Do more cardiovascular exercises. I love swimming . .. something I should do more of as well.
Gain some meaty weight

I would like to believe that this here thread provides me with the necessary motivation to do just that^^

I have spent pretty much the last month in bed with my back. I have had enough, I grabbed my cane and off I went... I walk to the kroger to get my new pain meds and walked home, it was a total of 2.9 miles. I will pay for it but fuck I needed out of the house for more then to see the doctors :(

I set out for a 7 mile run on Saturday with a goal time of completion of a little over an hour. I did so in 48 minutes 11 seconds. This while visiting my parents this weekend with the wife and kiddo. Their neighborhood is very hilly. I consider this to be an excellent accomplishment as I am no track person and my body fucking hates running.

The next challenge I've set for myself is to run 3 miles in under 20 minutes (I would consider 19:59 successful). Not just once, but every day this week.

Why am I doing this? That's a topic for a later post; but long story short the stresses of PT school have really fucked up my health and I'm now, and have been for the past 14 weeks, trying to correct what has gone wrong. If there is interest, I can post before/after information as well as greater detail of my workouts. Pics perhaps...

My goal is to be back where I was physically. (Mental/intellectual goals will be set when I return to school in Sept). My cardio is better than it has ever been as cardio has never been my focus. However, I started making cardio a priority shortly after Spring semester 2010 when, while doing a lab for General Medicine, I found my blood pressure to be 170/100 which...is dangerously high. My BP is now 122/70.
My muscle mass will take some time to gain back, I estimate at least a year or more given a) continued emphasis on cardio and b) I'll be returning back to school (and thus will lose quite a bit of what I've worked on thus far). The pic that I have circulated to certain women folk was taken before I set out to PT school. Needless to say my physique has taken a dive since, but is improving.

Quick stats:
Previous circulated pic: 182lbs, between 3 and 5% body fat as per hydrostatic weighing performed in undergraduate class, 18" guns....(after a workout :( )
Post school: 234.5lbs, ???body fat, didn't measure arms
Now: 174.2lbs, ???body fat, haven't measured arms....and I donwanna yet.

At the end of the P90 program. Yep yep ..

I've heard that's a pretty rigours program. I've considered buying it off and on over the past 6 months but fear being the weakling I am I won't be able to perform the requirements to get the results I want. I can get the program for a huge discount through a friend who does their nutrition and web forum if I choose to get it but I don't want to waste $40 if I won't do it. She said there are alternate exercises but she didn't think she could do the program. Mind you she's a 50 year old woman.

I did do the Power 90 workouts back 10-12 years ago and did fine then and I'm sure I could do them now even though I have yet to test my fractured foot on anything rigours.

How do you view the alternate exercises? What level of fitness do you think someone would need to be in to do the program?

It is designed to be fast paced and tough, and it is just that. However, the results in this program are just like most of life; ya get out based on what you put in.

If you can get it for $40 .. DO IT. There is a P90 assessment that you are supposed to take at the beginning of the program. It is to gauge if you are capable of giving the intensity required to get the results claimed. If you pass the assessment then go for it !! If not, go back and do the power 90 and THEN do the P90X.

How do you view the alternate exercises?

In Gary's caveman mentality I say if you must do the alternate exercises then its already probably a no-go. The ONLY acceptable alternate is using an aid to do pull-ups.

What level of fitness do you think someone would need to be in to do the program?

It is most assuredly NOT a beginner's workout, no way. Also .. in my opinion the DIET MUST be followed to the letter for the duration of this 90 days. The types of foods given are geared toward different phases of muscle development. The science involved in p90x seems to be rock solid, and it holds up to research.

If you have doubts. Skip it. Mentally you need to be 100% on board with this program.

*** If you want to get maximum results like many claim to have had then you MUST be able to put 100% intensity for the TIME that is listed in each work out EACH AND EVERY TIME. Diet MUST be religiously adhered to and there can be ZERO cheat times for this 90 days.

When you buy it, you need to buy the gear separately? If so, what brands did you get? Where did you (Gary) buy your p90x? If somewhere other than beachbody... was it through one of the merchant links?
Yep, I'm interested.

I bought mine through BeachBody. You can go Amazon and get the same kit. ( Amazon is a valid link here !! )

I already have the push up bars and dumbbells but I bought a Pullup /dip / ab station as well. ( This (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002PLJK6W) <-- Amazon for $140)

If you buy the P90X from beachbody they REALLY over push the other stuff ( gear, drinks, meal bars etc ) but just get the kit because you are gonna be making every meal yourself anyway I assume. ( I am.. its great !! )

Yep. I plan on only getting the kit through them. The flashy pictures of people posing and "you might be interested in...." are not too appealing.

Thanks for the info :)
